Out in the middle of the desert of south central Idaho sits a little truck stop. It is the only sign of human life on that stretch of I-84. The Fridal family owns and operates the full service cafe and fuel stop. Cassi and Chad love the country life and this little business offers all the blessings of living in the country without having to raise potatoes to do it.

One afternoon a trailer pulled up to the diesel pumps. "Alpacas" was written on the side. So many curious things come down the road -  they were interested in what might be inside. When the driver opened the door for them to see they were amazed.

They were greeted with many little humming voices. All the little fluffy faces turned to see.

They were invited to get up into the trailer. Surrounded by short little creatures with huge curious eyes, they were instantly enchanted. Chad wanted to buy one of them right there. Cassi could tell by the look in his eye. She squeezed his elbow a little and thanked the man. But Chad didn't get the hint.

After looking to find what looked like a runt that might be a little cheaper than the rest, he said, "so how much would a little one like this cost?"

Cassi was now gently pulling on his arm.

"Well that one there is already sold. I'm taking her to upstate New York," the driver said.

"What did you sell her for?" Chad replied.

"Sixty thousand dollars," was the straight-faced reply.

Cassi's tug was now vigorous! "OH NO YOU DON'T!"

And he didn't. At least not at first. That price tag was ridiculous! But after the shock wore off they began looking into owning alpacas. It was easy to find out about them. Alpaca owners were friendly and helpful. Come to find out alpacas were a stable and profitable business. They found out that alpaca farms usually offer financing to make it easier to get going. Information was easy to get from the many farms and web sites.

Now the Fridals raise alpacas. The neighbors thought they were nuts until they were offered many thousands of dollars for their very first cria (alpaca baby).

The Truck Stop has become a place for hundreds of people to learn about and buy alpacas! Contact the Fridals to see how they can help you promote your farm and sell your animals!
